The first French wine appellation (AOC), established in 1936, Châteauneuf-du-Pape covers 3,150 hectares across five communes: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Bédarrides, Courthézon, Orange and Sorgues. With 300 declared producers, the appellation produces an average of 90,000 hectolitres per vintage, representing around 12 million bottles, of which 93% are red and 7% white. Benefiting from a unique natural heritage, the AOC draws on 13 grape varieties, five distinct terroirs and an exceptional climate shaped by sunshine and the mistral wind to craft outstanding wines, most of which are exported (65% of volumes in 2023). Historically and consistently committed to sustainable development, 35% of the appellation’s vineyard area is farmed organically or biodynamically.
