Located in Vidigueira, Herdade da Lisboa was acquired by the Cardoso family in 2011, having since benefited from significant investments of wich we would here highlight the construction of a modern winery, wich includes a cellar of traditional and architectural design for ageing wines, with an integrated temperature and humidity control system, wich provides the ideal conditions for the ageing of wines in barrel and bottle, as well as a tasting room, shop and a meeting and events room with a 150-person capacity. This project also plans to build a restaurant, an agricultural museum and a tourist accommodation unit on the estate in the near future.
In Alentejo, the Vidigueira sub-region is characterised by a micro-climate created by the Serra do Mendro to the north, wich is a natural barrier to the fresh winds from the Atlantic Ocean, providing high daily temperature ranges and enabling grapes to ripen perfectly and evenly.
The Herdade da Lisboa, at the heart of this sub-region, is located between the Ribeira de Selminhos watercourse to the east, and Ribeira do Freixo to the west with its even richer soils. The combination of this local Mediterranean climate and the rich, predominantly schistose soils bring together unique conditions for the production of elegant, fresh wines, marked by their minerality in the case of the whites, and by fruit purity and their capacity for ageing in the reds.
Herdade da Lisboa spans a total area of 350 hectares, of wich 200 hectares are olive groves, and 100 hectares are vineyards, a compromise between typical Alentejo varieties and international varieties that contribute to the porfolio's diversity with seven white grape varieties (Antão Vaz, Arinto, Alvarinho, Roupeiro, Verdelho, Viognier and Chardonnay) and eigth red grape varieties (Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Syrah, Touriga Franca, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon) under cultivation at Herdade da Lisboa.
