The Unusual Suspects

SITT Autumn this year will see a new feature area ‘The Unusual Suspects’ bringing something very special and wines off the beaten track. For our first ever The Unusual Suspects, we are bringing on the Bugey at SITT Autumn where the old meets the new. Made up of 500 hectares of vineyards between Savoie, Burgundy and the Jura. Come on down and #Bugey at SITT Autumn 2022.

Yes sir, I can Bugey AOC!

Have you ever heard that the French keep their best wines for themselves? AOC Bugey wines most certainly fall into this category. Made up of 500 hectares of vineyards, nestled between Savoie, Burgundy & the Jura, Bugey has been home to vines since before the Roman conquests. That said, it was only in 2009 that the Bugey AOC was officially recognised thanks to the hard work & passion of local winemakers.

The area is best known for Bugey Cerdon, a sparkling rosé made using the Ancestral Method, but they also produce terrific reds, whites, rosés, and other sparkling wines using a host of grape varieties: Aligoté, Altesse, Chardonnay, Gamay, Jacquère, Mondeuse, Molette, Pinot Noir, Ploussard, Poulsard & Roussette.

Bugey is where old meets new: the landscape around the vineyards is dotted with rustic architecture, small villages, and hamlets. From this traditional setting a modern and dynamic set of producers has emerged, challenging the status quo by exploring new winemaking styles.

There’s only one thing for it, at SITT, let’s Bugey!

The following AOC Bugey producers are looking forward to meeting you at SITT:

  • Cellier Lingot Martin
  • La Dentelle
  • La Cuverie
  • Domaine Trichon
  • Domaine des Plantaz
