Larry McKenna the charming and ever modest winemaker from Escarpment in Martinborough NZ, is launching the three 2008 Single Vineyard wines – Te Rehua, Pahi – Pahi and Kiwa which are produced in very small quantities from 25 year old vineyards. These are already attracting attention among the Independent Merchants who are keen to reserve a few bottles from the small UK allocation. Recently he was awarded the George Fistonich medal and chosen as a ‘New Zealand Legend of Wine’ for his role in establishing Pinot Noir as New Zealand’s premier red wine variety.
Vernon Henn, the General Manager from Thandi, the longest established, South African Fairtrade / Black Empowerment brand, will attend SITT to launch the newest vintages to the Independent Trade. The vision and people behind the brand is a fascinating tale, which Vernon brings to life. Worldwide Fairtrade wine sales are up 57% and make compelling sense to stock in these challenging times.
Emma McRobb, UK Business Development Manager from Ferngrove Wines, Frankland River, Western Australia will be showing the very latest vintages of these iconic cool-climate wines award winning wines. In its short history Ferngrove has, for the past 6 consecutive years, earned a 5 star winery rating from James Halliday. In his Australian Wine Companion he writes, “Ferngrove is an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality. The consistency of its wines across a wide range of price points is wholly admirable.” Presented in smart new packaging, with the all new ‘Leaping Lizard’ range, Symbols and Estate wines available at SITT.
Burridges of Arlington St’s star guest at SITT will be Juan Pablo Bonete, winemaker and owner of the family run Bodegas Piqueras, DO Almansa. Juan Pablo, who started selling his wines in the UK 25 years ago, will spend his time at SITT giving tutored tastings of his wines which include Marius Reserva and Gran Marius Reserva Seleccion.
Charles Taylor Wines will be joined by Philippe Hebrard and Alla Dubois from Caves de Rauzan the largest producer of AC wines in France for whom they are the sole UK agents.
From Spain, winemaker for the progressive Montsant cooperative Celler El Masroig, Carlos Escolar will be joining Indigo at the London tasting.
Peter Osborne will be joined at both Manchester and London by Therese Besancenot from Domaine Besancenot exclusively showing their newly arrived burgundies.
Stefano Civino from Cantina Sampietrana in Puglia will also be joining For the Love of Wine for both tastings.
Newcomers New Generation Wines are hoping to be joined at at least one of the tastings by Antony Terryn from Dominio del Bendito. He’s a real character by all accounts – a Frenchman who has set up in Toro Spain and does pretty much everything by himself in the vineyard, winery and office!
Miquel Coca of Coca i Fito in Spain will be at the London tasting with Astrum Wine Cellars whilst Raymond Reynolds with be joined at both venues by Ricardo de Freitas of Vinhos Barbeito from Portugal.
Wine Treasury will be joined by Bodegas Luzon at both Manchester and London.
Carol Maggs of the Seidelberg Estate in South Africa and Sam Lockyer of Forrest Estate in New Zealand will be at both tastings with Haughtons/Adnams.
SITT newcomers SWIG will have Adi Badenhorst of South African AA Badenhorst Family Wines with them in both Manchester and London.
